What To Expect From the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series

Samsung has announced the next unpacked launch event scheduled for February 9th. We saw the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagships in different regions early this year. Samsung will be bringing its flagships on February 9th in global markets with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC chipsets in the US and its own Exynos 2200 SoC for the European markets and India. The Galaxy S22 Series are the non-foldable flagships from the company, which usually set the path for Android handset makers going forward in this new year.

With a little over two weeks ahead of the launch, trusted German publisher WinFuture has unveiled the full set of specifications and renders of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. While we’ve witnessed the renders already in previous reports, WinFuture’s report reveals every little spec of the Galaxy S22 smartphones and also the colour options of the upcoming flagship smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series — The Galaxy S22 And The S22+

In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy S22 will feature 146.0 x 70.6 x 7.6mm, weighing 167 grams, and the Plus model will be coming in 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.64mm weighing 195 grams. The Galaxy S22 and the Plus models reportedly come with 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch Dynamic 2X AMOLED panels, respectively. They’re the popular Infinity-O displays by Samsung, which feature 2340 x 1080 resolution. There will be adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. The displays further feature Gorilla Glass Victus protection up top. While they seem similar to the predecessor models launched last year, there’s a significant difference in peak brightness from the previous year models. The WinFuture report suggests the Galaxy S22 and the S22+ models’ displays come with up to 1500 nits peak brightness and up to 1750 peak brightness.

Under the hood, both models will likely comprise the recent Samsung Exynos 2200 chipset, the 4nm octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 2.8GHz, backed by AMD powered graphics. The report also gives us information on the storage models wherein we can expect up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage on both models. However, optics seem to be the same resolution cameras from the predecessor models: a 50 MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera. On the front, we can expect a 10MP selfie shooter.

The Galaxy S22 will feature a tiny 3700mAh battery capacity, while the Plus model will have a bigger 4500mAh battery capacity. Both will support fast charging and Qi-compatible wireless charging as well, the WinFuture report suggests. The connectivity options on the non-ultra models comprise — Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1, and NFC.

The WinFuture report also has pricing details of these models: The Galaxy S22 will likely be priced at €849 (Rs 71,400 approx.) for the 8+128GB model and €899 (Rs 75,600 approx.) for the larger 8GB+256GB model. Meanwhile, the Plus model will start at €1049 (Rs 88,200 approx.) for the 8/128GB model and €1099 (Rs 92,400 approx.) for the 8GB+256GB variant.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series — The Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is certainly the ultra-premium model in the lot that differentiates from the above models in the forthcoming Galaxy S22 series, like the predecessor models. It also replaces the discontinued Galaxy Note models, as this time, it will feature a dedicated S-Pen slot on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the report implies. The differences start with the design and display of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

While the above-mentioned S22 models carry forward last year’s design, the Ultra will come with an all-new design, the leaked render images suggest. In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will measure 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9mm and weigh 227grams. The cameras appear to be flushed onto the device instead of a slight protrusion as witnessed in the predecessor model. According to the report, the colour options of the Ultra model include Phantom Black, White, Green, and a new Burgundy model.

Similarly, the Infinity-O display will be slightly curved on the edges instead of a flat display. It is said to be bigger, measuring 6.8-inches. The Infinity-O Edge display has a 120Hz refresh rate (also adaptive), a peak brightness of 1750 nits, and a 500 PPI pixel density. It is also a Dynamic OLED 2X display with a bigger 3080 x 1440 resolution.

The Ultra is also expected to run on the Exynos 2200 SoC for the Indian market. The device will feature up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. In terms of cameras, we can see a quad-rear camera setup: featuring a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra wide-angle sensor, a 10MP telephoto shooter, and another 10MP telephoto sensor. On the front, the Ultra model will also comprise a 40MP selfie shooter.

There will be a larger 5000mAh battery capacity powering the device with support for fast and wireless charging. The connectivity options alongside other highlights remain the same as the aforementioned non-ultra models.

The pricing, however, will be different as the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to start at €1249 for 8+128GB, €1349 for 12GB+256GB, and €1449  for the 12GB+512GB model.

All the Galaxy S22 series models are expected to ship with Android 12-based Samsung One 4.1 UI out of the box.
